More substandard footpaths in Ottery for the sake of opportunist development!

Highway changes to the Sidmouth Road

In an attempt to provide a footpath link into the centre of Ottery the proposed development requires a footpath to be built along the narrow section of Sidmouth Road as shown in the plans for the new road layout. Residents and users of this road will all understand that this will pose a significant road safety issue.

The only method of providing a footpath along the narrow section of Sidmouth Road is for it to be less than the legal footpath width. It will put pedestrians in close proximity to the passing traffic much of it large and agricultural.

The proposed scheme also offers a new traffic priority scheme to the southern approach to Ottery – as well as there being limited visibility from one end of the scheme to the other, each end of the scheme will cause waiting traffic to tail back across existing driveways and junctions, towards the 60mph limit to the south at Gerway Lane.
